Oz Comic Con – 35mm Portraits

At first I thought that I had the wrong camera for the day…

I had to come into work on the weekend so didn’t want to carry anything more than just my laptop and my Fuji X100S and then decided to take a break by heading to the Oz Comic Con to take some photos. When I realised that the costumes were really well done and there were great portrait opportunities, I realised an 85mm prime would’ve been far better for reach and compression.

But then with the limitation of the wider focal length of 35mm, I had to work harder to get the right shot. And at the end of the day, I realised that as a focal length 35mm is a very workable focal length for portraits.

I did have to get in closer to the subject and realised that there is a slight distortion element to consider, however overall the outputs were not too bad. The only thing I would change next time is to reduce the aperture because I was getting shallow depth of field due to the fact that I had to get in close to the subject.

Here’s a selection of the portraits I was happy with. More snaps to come later.

Enjoy,

Saifs
